I feel awful today, my heart is broken because I found out that someone who is very dear to my heart has passed. Six years ago, when I was new to the United States and didn't know much about anything here, my boss was there through pretty much everything... She was there when I was down, when I needed a shoulder to cry on, when I was missing my parents, when I was going through a break-up, when I was having a bad day, but she was also there when we'd talk about our dogs, about life lessons, about career goals and everything in between. She was like my second Mom on American soil...
She gave the most sincere hugs, either when we were sad or happy...Not the pat on the back ones, with just almost touched bodies, but the close, heartfelt ones... When I'd cry for any reason, she'd always say "Now, don't do that, you know I won't let you cry alone and I'd have to join you"... She had the best sense of humor and her sarcasm was super sharp. I loved that about her, as I love being sarcastic too. She was also the strongest woman I've ever met. After struggling with quite a few challenges in her life, she still maintained her optimism and great outlook on things. Her Christmas gifts looked like Martha Stewart herself wrapped them, her bows perfectly done... Her style was unbelievable. For her age, she rocked those red heels like she was Carrie Bradshaw! She was always super classy and her handwriting was worthy of a calligraphy class... She loved Jazz music, her favorite was Chris Botti... She enjoyed theatre and pretty much anything art... Her favorite city was New York...gee, I wonder why? I always wondered what she was doing in Naples, as she would've felt right at home in an apartment in Manhattan. She was that fabulous!

We had a running joke between us. She was sick one day and I said "Maybe you should've slept with your socks to keep you warm..." Ever since then, every occasion she got, she would buy me a pair of socks. For Christmas one year, I got some flufy white ones... another time, she got me some that looked like homemade, warm with different colors and the highlight was the pair she got me from New York with "Broadway" written all over them... I still wear all of them. And always think about her.
When she moved from Naples, she gave a lot of things away. I ended up with the Hoover floor cleaning machine. Needless to say, everytime I clean, I think of her.
She was Rusty's biggest fan ever! She's never had the chance to meet him but I made sure to tell her all the funny things he does. She'd laugh so hard when I'd tell her about his slobbering and snoring sessions... We even had a playdate with her dog for a week-end once. Oh boy, what a high energy week-end that was! She sent over a bunch of yummy snacks for her dog, but Rusty was even more excited about them!
Unfortunately, she fought a battle she couldn't win. I won't be receiving any new socks anymore, but I won't need any things to remind me of her... She will always stay in my heart as one of the most influential people in my life.
Rest in peace and thank you for everything.
