One Thing In Common

I love making good tasting food and I love taking pretty photos. How could those two different crafts have anything similar or in common? I discovered today that they do have ONE thing in common...

When I'm making yummy food I always use a recipe, not because I can't create my own concoctions, but because it's better to make something tried and true when you're hungry (and especially when your other half is hungry as well!)then eat after a session of trial and error. So, I play it safe and use a recipe. Now, sometimes I tweak the recipe but the main ingredients stay the same.

Since I bought Photoshop Elements 8, I've been experimenting - and you know how I feel about that if you read what I said above... But with no tried and true recipe to follow, you have to play with it and see what it can do in the processing of your photos. It's great so far and I'm learning as I go. It's fascinating how many changes you can make to your photos. I haven't used anything but Picasa to enhance my photos, but this is a whole new level of awesomeness.

Then, tonight, I discovered the multitude of actions there is in the web universe! And many for free! How I love something when it's for free! I discovered that making an action is a lot like creating a recipe. It goes something like this:

"1) Layer, Adjustment, Hue and Saturation. Lower the Saturation to -21
2) Layer, New Fill Layer, Solid Color, Raspberry (530d24) on Screen Blending mode at 100%
3)Layer, New Fill Layer, Solid Color, Dark Navy (080638) on Exclusion Blending Mode at 100%
..................."

It is a little bit like "add a teaspoon of salt, then a half of teaspoon of pepper, a pinch of thyme.......and so on". They are step by step instructions on how to create something, how to tweak something, how to change or enhance something.

Oh, and besides "recipes", these hobbies also have ME in common and I'm happily practicing them both!
